Colleague discount card

One of the great things about being part of the Sainsbury's team is that when you have completed six months' service, you will become eligible for a colleague discount card. This entitles you and a nominated second user to a 10% discount on shopping at Sainsbury's stores and through our online shopping channels.

Annual bonus scheme

We operate a number of annual discretionary bonus schemes that are site/division specific. The rules, eligibility criteria and targets are communicated annually.

As you progress your career with us, there will be the opportunity for additional rewards.

Pensions

Pension is an important part of our total reward package and a great way to help colleagues to plan for their future. We offer all colleagues the opportunity to join Sainsbury's Retirement Savings Plan up to grade C5/5S and the Sainsbury's SIPP from grades C6/6S and above.

Government rules mean that Sainsbury's will automatically enrol colleagues into the pension when they meet certain conditions. Colleagues don't have to wait to be automatically enrolled; they can join and get the benefit of Sainsbury's contributions at any time.

There's more information about the pension including how to join, the differences between Start Up and Step Up contributions and the conditions for Pensions Automatic Enrolment at www.jspensions.com

There's additional benefits too – we offer free life cover of a year’s pay for all colleagues, and if you join and pay Step Up contributions, you'll be eligible for higher enhanced life cover of 6 years’ pay.

Sharesave (SAYE)

Sainsbury's also makes an annual offer to colleagues to save between £5 and £250 per pay period for a fixed 3 or 5 year term. They can take the money at the end of the term or use it to buy Sainsbury's Shares at a 20% discount on the market price which is set at the start of the term.

Sainsbury's Share Purchase Plan (SSPP)

The SSPP provides you with the opportunity to purchase shares in J Sainsbury Plc, deducted from pre-tax salary, of up to £115 per pay period SSPP is very flexible, allowing you to stop, change and re-start your deductions at any time.

Our Extra Colleague Benefits Programme

Our Extra Colleague benefits provides great benefits and discounts across a whole range of services suitable for colleagues and their families, including reduced price gym memberships, motoring association membership, restaurants, holidays, retail vouchers and places of interest.

Sainsbury's Social Association (SSA)

Sainsbury's Social Association (SSA) is a social club open for you and your partner to join for a small fee. Numerous outings and leisure activities are organised, and are usually discounted to members. As a member you are also entitled to exclusive leisure discounts across a whole range of services.

Colleague Recognition Scheme

One of our values is ‘we are cheering on our progress’. It’s about celebrating our successes and also recognising when colleagues have made a great effort even if things didn’t go perfectly. Through our colleague recognition scheme each colleague is issued with a recognition card. If you do something for the business or in our wider community that demonstrates our values or goes above and beyond what’s expected, we like to say ‘thank you’ by awarding you through uploading money straight onto your recognition card as well as a personal note of thanks for you to keep.

Awards for long service

We like to show our thanks to our long serving colleagues for their hard work by rewarding continuous service at key colleague milestones.

Season Ticket Loans

Once colleagues have completed 3 months’ service, we offer an interest free loan to purchase either a 6 month or an annual Travelcard, allowing colleagues to spread the cost across a periodic basis.

Cycle to Work Scheme

We have a Cycle to Work benefit in place to give everyone a chance to hire a brand new bike and cycling equipment from Sainsbury's. This is a salary sacrifice scheme, and you can therefore save money on tax and National Insurance as well as choosing a greener way to travel to work. Sainsburys will also pass on a 10% saving on the cost of the bike to the colleague.

Childcare vouchers

We are pleased to offer a flexible way to meet the cost of childcare, where colleagues are able to exchange a portion of their salary for a variety of Childcare Vouchers. Vouchers are non-taxable and exempt from National Insurance contributions and therefore represent a saving for colleagues who receive them as part of their total reward package.

Our Policies

We have a wide range of comprehensive policies to help colleagues who may need some extra support at different times in their life, covering areas such as parental leave, career breaks and flexible working practices.

With the exception of pensions, benefits are non contractual and varying terms may apply.

A great place to work

We rely on the 150,000 colleagues working in our stores, offices and depots to provide great service for our customers every single day. They are the face of Sainsbury's, and crucial to our business goals. So being 'A great place to work' is naturally important to us.

Best for food and health

As part of our long heritage of providing great food at fair prices, we aim to be 'Best for food and health'.

Sourcing with integrity

By 'Sourcing with integrity', we aim to provide our customers with quality products at a fair price, in a way that's better for the animals, farmers, growers and workers involved, and which minimises our impact on the environment.

Respect for our environment

At Sainsbury's, respecting the environment is about doing the right thing. We aim to be the UK's greenest grocer, which is great for our business but even better for the environment.

Making a positive difference to our community

For us, retailing is about more than quality products and great service. It's also about supporting and helping the communities where we work, and being a good neighbour. We aim for our stores to be at the heart of the communities they serve.
