One of the great things about being part of the Sainsbury's team is that when you have completed six months' service, you will become eligible for a colleague discount card. This entitles you and a nominated second user to a discount on shopping at Sainsbury's stores and through our online shopping channels.
We operate a number of annual discretionary bonus schemes that are site/division specific. The rules, eligibility criteria and targets are communicated annually.
An important part of our total reward package is our pension scheme. Sainsbury's offer all new colleagues the option to join a contributory pension scheme, the Sainsbury's Stakeholder Pension Plan, or if you are starting on grade C6 / 6S and above, the Sainsbury's Self Invested Pension Plan (SIPP). For more information please visit www.jspensions.com. Life assurance is also provided to all members of Sainsbury's pension schemes, at the rate of four times your annual basic salary in the event of death in service.
Sainsbury's also makes an annual offer to colleagues to save between £5 and £250 per pay period for a fixed 3 or 5 year term. They can take the money at the end of the term or use it to buy Sainsbury's Shares at a 20% discount on the market price which is set at the start of the term.
The SSPP provides you with the opportunity to purchase shares in J Sainsbury Plc, deducted from pre-tax salary, of up to £115 per pay period
Our Extra Colleague benefits provides discounts across a whole range of services suitable for colleagues and their families, including reduced price gym memberships, motoring association membership, places of interest and various shops.
Sainsbury's Social Association (SSA) is a social club open for you and your partner to join for a nominal membership fee. Numerous outings and leisure activities are organised and are usually discounted to members. As a member you are also entitled to exclusive leisure discounts across a whole range of services.
Shining Stars are used to recognise and record the fantastic work of colleagues at Sainsbury's, both working as individuals and as part of a team. This could be doing a great job every day or going the extra mile when it's needed. Colleagues are awarded with Sainsbury's vouchers to recognise this.
We like to show our thanks to our long serving colleagues for their hard work by rewarding continuous service at key colleague milestones.
We have a Cycle to Work benefit in place to give everyone a chance to hire a bike and cycling equipment from Sainsbury's. This is a salary sacrifice scheme and you can therefore save money on tax and National Insurance as well as choosing a greener way to travel to work.
We are pleased to offer a flexible way to meet the cost of childcare, where colleagues are able to exchange a portion of their salary for Childcare Vouchers. Vouchers are non-taxable and exempt from National Insurance contributions and therefore represent a saving for colleagues who receive them as part of their total reward package.
We have a wide range of comprehensive policies to help colleagues who may need some extra support at different times in their life covering a number of topics from parental leave, career breaks and flexible working practices.
With the exception of pensions, benefits are non contractual and varying terms may apply.
And these benefits apply to everyone! Moreover, as you progress your career with us, there will be the opportunity for additional rewards, plus for our senior leaders we have a unique long-term incentive scheme - top recognition!
We want people to enjoy working at Sainsbury's, and rewarding colleagues fairly and competitively is an important part of the whole package. As well as competitive rates of pay, we offer a wide range of benefits, including an annual bonus scheme to eligible colleagues. More than 124,000 colleagues shared a bonus of around £60 million in 2011, bringing the total amount paid out over the past five years to over £350 million. The bonus scheme is based on sales and profits, as well as some of the key factors behind our success, like great service and product availability.
We offer colleagues extensive reward packages, ranging from giving all colleagues with at least six months' service a discount card to offering a Sharesave share option scheme. We also give colleagues the opportunity to take part in various salary sacrifice schemes, where they can give up part of their gross pay in exchange for non-cash benefits such as childcare vouchers and bikes to travel to work. By offering these schemes we are helping colleagues with the costs of childcare or encouraging them to get fitter and use more environmentally-friendly transport. For senior colleagues who have a company car as a benefit, we are introducing limits on the CO2 emissions of all the cars we offer. For other colleagues who need to drive high mileage to perform their role, we provide a low emission company car (currently a Ford Focus 1.6TDCI ECOnetic with a CO2 emission rate of just 98g/km). In addition to all of this we provide a wide range of voluntary benefits, including discounts on a variety of products and services through our Extra Colleague Benefits programme.
