Summary of the Role’s Main Purpose:

  • To design and develop successful homeware product ranges within time and cost restraints under the guidance of the design manager
  • To collaborate creatively with the design team and buying teams in identifying and creating appropriate product for the Sainsbury’s customer
  • To drive innovation and creativity with commercial awareness and an established handwriting on a given category.

Principle Accountabilities:

  • Have a strong awareness of trend and be able to produce commercial and relevant product ranges each season
  • Responsible for the development of appropriate product and sampling within critical path deadlines
  • To take strong ownership of a given category, not only delivering trend but developingHave an established knowledge of manufacturing processes and build supplier relationships within a given category
  • To build on past successes and future trends to lead the development of a given range
  • Be able to present at a senior level

Measures of Success:

  • Development & selection of commercial product that is well received by product and management teams
  • Successful sales from product in store
  • Positive feedback from team members & managers
  • An enthused designer who enjoys their role

Level of Decision-making Authority:

Intermediate

  • Have a passion for product
  • A good taste level and an eye for identifying appropriate trends & product
  • Eagerness and enthusiasm to achieve the best results
  • To be a team player
  • A commercial awareness of the Homewares market
  • The ability to produce clear & focused design packs (ideally on CAD)
  • The ability to articulate well product ideas & concepts to peers and managers
  • Good organisational skills and a focused method of working
  • Good presentation skills
  • Experience of Far East travel and Manufacturing
  • Be experienced in international inspirational shopping
