Our Buying teams are at the forefront of our success.  There is no better time to join our business as we face into projects with pace and passion.  As a Buying Manager you will lead a team of Senior Buyers and Buyers to make decisions that will impact the success of each and every Sainsbury’s store in the UK.  You will work alongside highly entrepreneurial, strategic leaders in an environment that brings change and innovation.

 

As a Buying Manager, you will be responsible for achieving an optimum offer for our customers through effective cost negotiation, supplier management and promotional strategies. You will lead the sourcing and selection strategy for the category as set out by the Category Manager in order to achieve a market leading performance. You will be supported by a team of buyers and be accountable for providing ongoing coaching to build a high performing and effective team.

 

What you need to do

  • Develop and implement the category vision, engaging the business to achieve a market leading performance
  • Identify and implement opportunities of expansion giving Sainsbury’s a crucial point of differentiation in a ‘commodity’ driven market
  • Drive the category sourcing and selection strategy through negotiating product costs with suppliers and identifying the most cost effective global sourcing routes in to the UK distribution network
  • Develop and implement ‘business as usual’ activity e.g. pricing, promotion and ranging, within the frameworks agreed by the Category Manager and Category Planner
  • Lead on supplier business plans and set specific performance targets for suppliers, working with the Category Supply Manager to measure performance and manage areas of underperformance
  • Liaise with Supply Chain and Retail teams to ensure store service and availability targets are met
  • Work with the Product Technologist and Developer to set the quality criteria for own label products, ensuring the optimal balance between quality and price is achieved
  • Support the implementation of New Product Development
  • Regularly review own label products against their appropriate competitor benchmarks
  • Build great relationships with the Category Manager and Category Planner to identify future commercial opportunities
  • Build a highly effectively cross functional team through leading a team of buyers to deliver commercial results, providing ongoing coaching and support
