Job Description


Technical and Ethical are the people who make sure that Sainsbury’s, Argos, and Habitat’s products are functional and safe for our customers, the people that act as our conscience when we’re out looking for all the amazing things that you can buy across our multiple brands and channels. They make sure that our products are the best they can be as well as being fair to the people that produce them and have the least negative impact on our environment.

Product Technology is about ensuring the quality and safety of our products. We look at how product is sourced from factories and made available for our customers, always looking for ways to make it better, helping our customers to enjoy living and working at home.

To succeed in this role, you’ll need experience in this type of role or be curious about how products are made, how they are developed and how they perform. You’ll be dealing with a lot of stakeholders including manufacturers and our trading teams, so great communication will be key.


About the role:

  • Supports product delivery including supplier and product approval, competitor benchmarking, customer/store feedback, range reviews and post implementation reviews
  • Works with Technical Managers, Product Technologists, buyers, merchandisers and Sainsburys Argos Asia to identify supplier selection for products and deliver on sourcing strategy and critical path
  • Follows the KPI technical strategy with suppliers. Implements improvements in supplier performance or product quality and sets up the payment of invoices for external parties and cross charging to other areas of business
  • Create and manage technical records (technical files, product standards, testing reports, workbooks etc) in line with company procedures and legal guidelines.
  • Supports technical team by taking on and delivering appropriate "stretch" projects
  • Responsible for storing and keeping records of samples including customer complaints
  • Supports technical team with administrative task such as data collection and interpretation, preparation, review and sample management, contacting suppliers and testing laboratories as appropriate
  • Contributes to Product development and continued product improvement


About you:

  • Electrical product-relevant degree or equivalent, or experience in a similar role
  • Good IT knowledge especially Excel & MS Office
  • Analytical & Numerical skills
  • Commercially aware in terms of the market and trends
  • Able to engage at all levels with great written and verbal communication skills
  • Able to deliver results whilst working under pressure in a fast-moving, dynamic retail environment, as an individual and within a team
