Experience Designer, CMS - 12 Month FTC

At Sainsbury’s we believe that the customer should be at the heart of everything we do. Our vision is to create the easiest, most enjoyable experiences that better serve our customers’ ever-changing needs. We work across a range of services, products, touch points and tools to deliver distinctive, integrated, and consistent experiences for our customers and colleagues across Sainsbury’s Group (which includes Sainsbury’s Food, Argos, Nectar, Tu and Habitat).

We drive brilliant experiences across all our brands in-store and online, operating in agile teams and squads, working seamlessly with teams right across the business to make the most of the exceptional knowledge, insight and talent we have.

The role:

This is an exciting role, working on designs to improve the customer experience across Sainsbury’s groceries as well as Argos, Habitat and Tu. Our Sainsbury’s groceries website and apps have millions of users and help customers get food for every occasion delivered to their door or collected from their local store. It is not just the weekly shops; it’s planning food for special occasions, ordering urgent supplies and everything in between.

Our Argos website is the third most visited site in the UK and helps our customers get value and convenience when shopping everything from sofas to kettles. We also have an Argos app and Tu website, which are fundamental to our general merchandise experience.

As an Experience Designer working with our CMS (content management system), you will be responsible for understanding how the experience across these websites and apps can be improved using our multi-brand CMS components. You will work closely with the CMS product and engineering teams, as well as the design systems team, to design new components or feed in updates to existing components for our business teams to effectively merchandise and trade across our channels.

You will also work closely with our wider design community to understand how CMS components can feature part of their designs to bring the customer experience to life with content. Talking to the eCommerce teams who populate the components with content you’ll also ensure the customer experience is always consistent and inspiring.

It’s an exciting time as there are lots of things happening across the brands that touch the full spectrum of the customer journey so you’ll get to impact what millions of customers see. You’ll use research to talk to customers and get feedback and you’ll run workshops with colleagues to get their requirements too.

This role is the perfect blend of UX and UI and the opportunity for someone to really improve things for millions of customers!

You will have had lots of experience of user interface design and CMS component design and be able to use design thinking to plan out that work, getting feedback from stakeholders. With tight feedback loops and the ability to bring about huge changes to our customers, this position offers an extremely rewarding design role.

What you'll do:

  • Work with the CMS product and engineering teams to understand which components exist and how they are being used by stakeholders.
  • Work with stakeholders across commercial and design to understand requirements for new CMS components to feed into the backlog.
  • Create guidelines for usage of CMS components and work with stakeholders to advise on how best to use them, keeping the customer experience consistent.
  • Interact with stakeholders from across the group to share insights and ideas and to champion the correct use of CMS components.
  • Work with the content strategists and accessibility specialist to make sure you design the best experience for all of our customers and colleagues.
  • Design and test concepts and solutions.
  • Work within agile teams across product, design and engineering to get your solutions in to the hands of our customers and colleagues.
  • Be part of an exciting design community, pairing up with other designers and sharing ideas to constantly iterate the customer experience.
  • Ensure your work uses our design system best practice principles including content design and accessibility standards
