Argos Analytics - Lead Analyst – Commercial Analytics – SQL, Python or R
London / Hybrid working
We’re a business serving millions of customers a day, with the UK’s largest loyalty scheme and an ever-evolving set of digital platforms. All this equals over 1.2 billion transactions a year, presenting a volume, depth, and complexity of data that few can match.
We don’t think we’re exaggerating when we say we have the most exciting data set in the country. We’ve got data from billions of transactions for our teams to play with. From it, we build scalable, high-performance products using cutting-edge technology that give our customers an amazing experience. In an inclusive, agile environment, you’ll have the space to be curious, to experiment, and solve real-world challenges. And you’ll get to see the output of your work in the hands of millions of people across the UK.
In the Argos Analytics team we’re embarking on a major transformation and you’ll stretch the imagination of what the power of data and insights can bring to how we do things. This is a role within Argos Commercial Analytics and will help drive Commercial understanding and development for Argos.
As a Lead Commercial Analyst you’ll be responsible for developing and maintaining a portfolio of advanced tools and reports which enable a deep understanding of our price competitiveness relative to the rest of the market and understanding the ROI, uplifts and cross-shop on price investment campaigns and promotions. We want you to have a point of view, combining commercial insight, curiosity, and an understanding of our business to provide recommendations and identify opportunities for improvement.
You’ll have the chance to work with a modern and powerful tech stack of Snowflake, R, Python and MicroStrategy, while working with a team of talented colleagues driving impact at the heart of our commercial division.
A bit about the role
- You will be an Analytics Lead and part of a high calibre team of Analysts, supported by Analytics Managers in exploiting Argos’s data assets to establish the realisation of Argos’s strategy. As a lead in this team, you will carve out a backlog of work to deliver.
- Your primary focus will be on delivering analytical value for our Commercial divisions.
- You will have a great analytical foundation, and we want you to think about how you apply that in the context of Argos’s – getting to know how we operate is key so you can propose and recommend the approach that should be taken to fulfil data analysis.
- You will develop & maintain relationships with your stakeholders, championing a collaborative approach to requirements gathering and the formation of compelling analysis. While staying confident in questioning a proposed strategy or approach to analysis.
- We move at pace, whilst still delivering high quality, accurate, professional outputs that land the real truths that sit within the data. You will proactively ensure you are always in touch with the ‘Why’ behind every project – understanding the purpose of your analysis, and which decisions the business is looking to inform.
- You will take pride in your work, have brilliant attention to detail, and enjoy presenting findings with empathy towards an audience with a limited technical background. Possessing the ability to translate complex concepts into easily digestible stories with data, which in turn inspire action.
What you need to know and show
- A proven history of delivering actionable insight and demonstrable business change through the application of analytics.
- Essential experience: Excellent SQL and either R or Python
- A passion for high quality data storytelling. We love data and deriving value from it. The key to the value is in being able to build and tell compelling stories based on this data.
- An inquisitive mind, with the curiosity to be constantly on the lookout for opportunities and the ability to logically solve problems. Experience of retail and the analytical challenges retail presents is helpful, but not essential.
- Whenever possible, automate repetitive tasks to save time and focus on projects that add value.
- Be creative in leveraging new data sets and creating new sources of insight to help solve our toughest commercial problems and make tangible recommendations
- Knowledge of statistical and predictive techniques, their use-cases, trade-offs and pitfalls
- Keen to learn and develop. Pro-active about driving your career development and progression.
- The ability to partner brilliantly with the business to understand their problems and deliver value, applying commercial acumen and communicating/connecting in a compelling way.
- A high level of team contribution – looking for opportunities to provide input and support across the wider analytics community.
- An interest in how commercial decisions can be improved using data and analysis
- Ability to propose and interpret KPIs and frameworks to identify opportunities and guide action
