What you'll do
As a Senior Architect functional architect in Commercial at Sainsbury's Tech, you will play a crucial role in our Core Commercial Transformation Programme – an SAP S/4HANA implementation. You will primarily be responsible for – but not limited to – working with SAP and our Systems Integrator partner, to define and plan and oversee the functional design and integration across SAP modules and external systems ensuring alignment with business goals and outcomes. Your focus will be on delivering a seamless end-to-end solution by shaping and validating functional architecture, ensuring consistency, scalability, security and reliability. You’ll be instrumental in resolving design challenges, enabling integration across complex landscapes, and contributing to key decisions that influence the overall transformation strategy. You’ll collaborate with fellow Architects and the wider Engineering Community to develop and communicate a coherent technical and functional architecture, roadmap, and strategy. As a valued member of the Architecture Community of Practice, you’ll contribute to shared learning, thought leadership, and innovation across teams. Success in this role requires a strong understanding of large-scale transformation programmes, functional design leadership, stakeholder engagement, and a collaborative mindset. Staying informed about industry trends, applying modern design principles, and fostering effective problem-solving are all key to delivering meaningful and lasting value.
Who you are
We’d love to meet a Senior Architect with:
- 5+ years of Architecture experience, ideally with exposure to large transformation programmes.
- Strong understanding of integration and functional design across enterprise systems.
- Experience with SAP modules and/or the retail industry (preferred but not essential)
- Experience with integration patterns such as Kafka, API, SOAP, and data transformation techniques.
- Solid understanding of security standards.
- Experience with cloud-based solutions and cloud integration (e.g., Azure, AWS, GCP).
- Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to interact with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- A structured, analytical thinker with a collaborative and problem-solving mindset.Self-motivated, proactive, and able to prioritise effectively in a fast-paced environment.
