What you’ll do:
As part of the Data & Analytics team, you will join the Commercial Analytics function, which plays a critical role in supporting the business across three key areas:
- Pricing & Promotion- Develops, enhances, and communicates a suite of tools and reports that provide deep insights into our price & promotional competitiveness in the market. These assets will also help define our value strategy, evaluate the return on investment and overall impact of pricing strategies, campaigns, and promotions.
- Range, Cost Optimisation & Agriculture- Introduces tailored business analyses and self-serve reporting tools to support strategic decisions around product range, assortment, space effectiveness, cost efficiency and agriculture initiatives.
- Strategic Analytics- Develops long term analytics capabilities that underpin major business transformation initiatives, helping to accelerate the evolution of our commercial decision making.
We have two exciting roles within the Price & Promotion and Range ,COGS & Agriculture Analytics teams. As an Associate Analyst, you’ll play a key role in shaping data-driven decisions that impact millions of customers.
In this role you will:
- Collaborate cross-functionally with stakeholders across Sainsbury’s Food, General Merchandise, and Clothing Commercial teams, fostering strong partnerships to drive aligned, data-informed decision-making.
- Work closely with other Analytics & Engineering teams to streamline data access, creatively overcoming challenges and unlocking new opportunities.
- Design and implement innovative solutions from ETL pipelines and statistical analyses to machine learning models and dynamic dashboards, that support strategic commercial decision making.
- Explore and harness new data sources, generating fresh insights and actionable recommendations to tackle our most complex commercial challenges.
- With a keen eye for detail and a passion for data storytelling, you will translate complex concepts into digestible narratives that inspire action.

What you need to know and show
- A highly numerate background. You may have a degree in mathematics, statistics or another analytical subject, or analytical work experience.
- SQL knowledge is essential. Experience using Python or R is helpful but not vital.
- Brilliant communication skills, having the ability to explain complex information in simple terms.
- An inquisitive mind, with the curiosity to be constantly on the lookout for opportunities and the ability to logically solve problems.
- High attention to detail.
- The ability to partner brilliantly with the business to understand their problems and deliver value, applying commercial acumen and communicating/connecting in a compelling way.
- Keen to learn and develop. Proactive about driving your career development and progression.
- A high level of team contribution – looking for opportunities to provide input and support across the wider analytics community.
