Lead Data Analyst – Data Analytics, SQL, Python - Commercial & Clothing

What you'll do

As the Lead Analyst in the Commercial & Clothing Analytics team at Sainsbury's, you will play a pivotal role in unlocking value from one of the UK's most dynamic retail data sets. Your responsibilities will include owning the end-to-end delivery of analytical projects, coaching and developing junior analysts, building strong relationships across the business, translating complex data into compelling narratives, questioning assumptions, and proposing innovative solutions. Your numerate background, strong SQL and Python skills, proven track record of delivering actionable insights, and high attention to detail will be essential as you drive decision-making and business change through impactful analysis and storytelling.

Who you are

As the Lead Analyst in Commercial & Clothing Analytics at Sainsbury's, you are a highly skilled and experienced professional with a strong background in analytics and data-driven decision-making. Your expertise in SQL, Python, and data storytelling, combined with your commercial acumen and proactive mindset, allows you to deliver actionable insights that drive business change and support strategic priorities. You excel in building strong relationships, coaching junior analysts, and translating complex data into compelling narratives that inform and inspire stakeholders across the organisation. Your ability to challenge assumptions and propose innovative solutions reflects your commitment to continuous improvement and delivering high-impact analysis that adds value to the business.

Essential Criteria

  1. Demonstrable proficiency in SQL and Python for data analysis and manipulation (experience with Snowflake, R, GitHub, and Jira is advantageous but not required).
  2. Proven experience in delivering actionable insights that have led to measurable business change or impact.
  3. Ability to translate complex data into clear, compelling narratives, evidenced through data storytelling or presentation work.
  4. Experience in managing or mentoring analysts, including shaping their development and overseeing analytical workload.
  5. Educational degree or professional background in a numerate discipline, such as mathematics, statistics, or a related analytical field.
