What you’ll do
- Support the Senior Designer in developing and delivering the design strategy for Girlswear.
- Own your category development when appropriate, creating mood boards and seasonal design themes.
- Drive macro and category trends, identifying new commercial opportunities aligned with growth plans.
- Design competitive, multi-product garment ranges that resonate with our customer profiles.
- Apply your technical knowledge to engineer product for commercial success, achieving optimal cost and design.
- Lead the development process from concept through to launch, briefing suppliers directly or via global teams.
- Collaborate with Product Technologists and Buyers to ensure right-first-time samples and critical path adherence.
- Review aesthetic and commercial fit, always designing with the customer at the heart of every decision.
- Share trend, styling, and product information with Marketing, PR, and Digital teams to support key stories and messages.
- Build strong relationships with our global supply base and internal stakeholders across Buying, Technical, Sourcing, and Merchandising.
- Champion sustainability in both design process and product delivery.
- Manage and support assistants in their day-to-day workload, fostering a collaborative and agile working environment.
- Travel for development trips as needed, and seek inspiration from trend books, trade fairs, shops, museums, and galleries.
Essential Criteria
- Previous experience in garment design, with a proven track record across multi-product ranges.
- Background in designing for a high street retailer or supplier, ideally within girlswear or womenswear.
- Strong commercial awareness and understanding of UK and international retail dynamics.
- Demonstrated ability to manage and mentor assistants effectively.
- Experience working cross-functionally with Buying, Technical, Sourcing, and Merchandising teams.
- Technical knowledge of clothing manufacturing processes and product engineering.
- Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop, plus other relevant design packages.
- Excellent organisational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple priorities.
- A proactive, positive, and agile approach to working, with a passion for continuous learning and development.
