We’d all like amazing work to do, and real work-life balance. That’s waiting for you at Sainsbury’s. From fragrance to car care, clothing and pots and pans, our General Merchandise team delivers all the non-food items for Sainsbury’s, Habitat and Argos customers. This multi-brand environment means you get to work across most areas. You can also be a pioneer, because the team believes in being brave, iterating and learning as they go. They also develop deep connections to other departments, which opens up a lot of different career opportunities for you. What’s certain is that you’ll spend time on the shop floor to get closer to customers, and bring a broad perspective and the full support of your manager with you wherever you decide to develop next.

About the team

Join Argos’ Services & Propositions team – a centre of talent shaping customer and commercial outcomes across the business. We partner with Commercial, Finance and dedicated Data & Analytics pricing teams to deliver ‘Trusted Value’ as part of ‘More Argos, More Often’. You’ll work alongside experienced proposition managers with strong support, coaching and access to senior leaders.

More about the role

As Value Strategy Manager, you will own the total Argos pricing and promotional strategy. You’ll translate complex market, competitor, customer and price-matching datasets into clear guardrails and category-level targets that protect price perception and deliver profit.

Day to day, you’ll work hand-in-hand with Data & Analytics and Finance, frame the right questions in ambiguous spaces, and communicate simple, actionable frameworks to senior stakeholders. You’ll also liaise with Legal to evolve pricing house rules and ensure strategies remain market-appropriate.

More about you

You’re confident with data and comfortable switching between detail and the bigger picture. You bring strong strategic thinking and commercial acumen, a natural, credible style with stakeholders, and the resilience to land change at pace. You’re collaborative, curious about ecommerce and customer behaviour, and you enjoy simplifying complexity into actions others can rally behind.

Essential criteria

  • Ability to consolidate large, varied datasets into clear pricing/promo guardrails and KPIs (e.g., price position, promo ROI)
  • Proven experience shaping or implementing pricing/promotional strategy within a commercial retail or ecommerce context
  • Structured, hypothesis-led problem solving; able to articulate assumptions, tests and outcomes
  • Influences senior stakeholders and drives adoption across cross-functional teams
  • Plans and tracks delivery with defined metrics and cadences; comfortable with tools such as Excel/SQL/SAP (level TBC)
