As a Staff Product Manager in Commercial Food, you will work closely with a variety of teams across commercial, digital, supply chain, logistics and retail to advance several strategic initiatives by building products that enhance our customer experience and increase the efficiency and effectiveness of our commercial capabilities. Our commercial platforms enable product setup, supplier partnerships, space and range optimisation, pricing and promotions, and display. They enable Sainsbury’s to serve millions of our customers, and we aim to offer an increasingly optimised customer experience. You’ll be shaping our future technology to help create the right proposition for Sainsbury’s customers wherever and however they might choose to shop with us. You’ll transform our ways of working and how we make decisions. You’ll enable connected planning and operational efficiency.
More about the role (Staff Product Manager)
- This role is placed in Commercial Core area (incl. Food, General Merchandise and Clothing) , spanning some of the highest profile areas such as Price, Promotion, Range, Space, Locations, Item, Supplier and Cost. The Commercial products you'll be working with are in operation 24/7 across every division of Sainsbury's to ensure we're providing the right teams with the right data necessary for our customers - from moving products around our network to the allergen information that gets presented to customers.
- You'll be responsible for the managing the success of our strategic Commercial Data Services. Specifically focused on owning our strategy to ensure the services are modern, flexible and fit for purpose in an ever changing commercial environment.
- You'll work very closely with the Senior Product Managers/ owners of the Data Services to fulfil their roadmaps. You'll also work closely with engineering and delivery to ensure initiatives are on track, supporting teams reduce their dependencies, risks and blockers.
- You'll work closely with a wide array of Commercial Data Services consumers such as Supply Chain, Logistics, Digital and Finance - prioritising and delivering key initiatives to drive value to Sainsbury's.
- You'll work with both commercial and technical stakeholders to share and deliver on our vision; steering the direction of development, interacting frequently with senior leaders, and working closely with a range of teams to ensure activity is prioritised in line with the agreed product goals and metrics.
- You’ll be responsible for the coordination and alignment with other product teams to develop and launch new products and to continually improve customer experience.
- Always considering the market context and ever-evolving technology and legislative environment, you’ll clearly articulate the business benefit of potential and current products, while tracking both effort and value delivery, to identify opportunities for cost reduction and quality improvement.

- Possess knowledge and understanding of a retail business and technology landscape, and how to maximise the value that commercial products can and will add.
- Clear understanding of Agile delivery and modern engineering team practices.
- Knowledge of product development principles and methodologies.
- Demonstrate great value behaviours and a growth mindset coupled with drive, determination, and desire.
- Judgement to make sometimes difficult and complex decisions at pace - comfortable dealing with ambiguous situations and helping drive toward clarity.
- An ability to creatively solve problems and enthusiasm for delivering change through people and technology.
