In this role, you will partner closely with the Category Director, Heads of Buying, and the buying team, delivering analysis that supports category planning and informs key commercial decisions. You will evaluate promotional strategies, seasonal activity, profitability, and investment appraisals to support performance delivery and financial rigour.
You will also contribute to increasing commercial awareness through financial insight and to ensuring compliance with accounting standards. Your work will enable improved insight generation, streamline reporting, and support the team in meeting financial and strategic targets. With a focus on challenging the status quo, driving transformation, and delivering impactful results, this role offers a platform for personal growth and professional development in a fast-paced and competitive industry.
Additionally, you will have line management responsibility of a Finance analyst to provide reporting, analysis, and insights for the Grocery Food category, whilst supporting their growth and development.
More about you
You are a qualified accountant with experience in delivering high-quality financial analysis and commercial insight to support business decision-making. You bring strong Excel and PowerPoint capabilities, enabling you to streamline reporting and provide clear, actionable outputs. You are comfortable working independently, building strong partnerships across multiple stakeholder groups, and influencing decisions at all levels. You bring curiosity, analytical strength, and the ability to translate financial information for both finance and non-finance colleagues. Finally, you bring leadership qualities aligned with our Leadership Performance Expectations (LPEs) and our Valued Behaviours to promote the professional development of others and successful outcomes within their roles.
Essential criteria
- Recognised accounting qualification - CIMA, ACCA, or ACA (or equivalent)
- Demonstrated retail commercial finance experience, partnering with category, trading or commercial teams to drive financial performance.
- Proven ability to influence, engage, and constructively challenge stakeholders at all levels using evidence-based financial insight.
- Advanced Excel and PowerPoint skills (e.g. pivots, lookups, power pivots, macros) to deliver accurate analysis and streamlined reporting.
- Evidence effective communication of financial information to both finance and non-finance audiences to support commercial understanding.
- Proven ability to manage workload independently, prioritise effectively, and maintain financial compliance and high analytical standards.
Desirable criteria
- Experience with leading and coaching individuals and/or a team.
- Project and Supplier Negotiation experience.
