What you'll do

As a Technical Manager, you will be accountable for managing the delivery of all aspects of the Sainsbury's Brand product and technical plans for your designated product area, ensuring safe, legal, and high-quality products that meet agreed specifications and standards. In collaboration with cross-functional teams, suppliers, and internal stakeholders, you will drive the quality and technical agenda, delivering through suppliers the Plan for Better commitments and placing the customer at the forefront of all decisions. You will work closely with the General Merchandise category team to integrate and align Sainsbury's GM products within Sainsbury's Commercial, implementing technical audit and ethical audit processes, defining appropriate product ranges, and establishing technical accountability to support the development of the GM strategy. Your role will also involve reviewing data, systems, policies, and compliance against Sainsbury's ways of working, ensuring quality standards are met, and maintaining brand reputation through effective due diligence and quality management practises.

Who you are

As a Technical Manager at Sainsbury's, you are a seasoned professional with a strong background in technical management within the retail or supply base environment, equipped with in-depth knowledge of quality systems, legislation, ethical audits, and manufacturing processes essential for ensuring the safety, legality, and quality of Sainsbury's brand products. With a proactive approach to supplier management, a track record of delivering results, and a keen eye for detail, you play a critical role in driving quality standards, maintaining brand reputation, and overseeing the technical aspects of product development and delivery. Your commercial awareness, effective communication skills, and ability to prioritise tasks demonstrate your commitment to ensuring product excellence and adherence to regulatory standards within a dynamic and evolving retail landscape.

 

Essential Criteria:

  • Demonstrated ability to manage product safety, quality and legality for own‑brand or branded products, ensuring compliance with UK legislation, internal standards and due‑diligence requirements
  • Proven experience working with suppliers and third‑party providers, including oversight of technical, ethical and product assurance audit processes
  • Ability to implement and operate standardised technical governance, including gated NPD processes and quality management frameworks within a cross‑functional environment
  • Experience collaborating with commercial, sourcing, supply chain and technical teams to define product ranges and manage supply base capability
  • Ability to review and use technical data, systems and reporting to support compliance, governance and continuous improvement
