What you'll do
As the Finance Manager for Argos Central Trading Finance, you will be responsible for acting as a trusted finance partner to the Commercial Director and senior trading stakeholders, providing forward-looking insight and analysis on sales, margin, and stock forecasting. Your role will involve delivering clear analysis of key trading trends, identifying risks and opportunities, and ensuring alignment between stock decisions and sales / margin forecasts. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to ensure aligned plans across channels, support trading reviews with insightful commentary, and continuously improve forecasting processes and insight quality to drive informed decision-making and optimise trading outcomes.
Who you are
You are a qualified accountant with proven experience in forecasting, trend analysis, and performance management within a trading environment. Your high level of commercial acumen allows you to understand the intricacies of sales, margin, and stock outcomes, while your attention to detail and ability to connect financial outputs to operational drivers ensure accurate and insightful analysis. With your proactive, self-starting approach, you take ownership of insight quality and forecasting accuracy, continuously seeking ways to enhance decision-making processes and improve overall performance across sales, margin, and stock.
Essential Criteria
- Fully qualified accountant (CIMA, ACCA or ACA)
- Demonstrable commercial finance experience, ideally within retail/GM/FMCG: Proven delivery of forecasting, trend analysis and performance management with direct relevance to sales, margin and stock
- Commercial and analytical capability: Evidenced ability to analyse and explain the key drivers of sales, margin and stock, including margin mechanics and stock dynamics
- Advanced financial modelling and data analysis skills to produce accurate, reliable financial outputs where data may be incomplete or ambiguous; Alteryx and Power BI are desirable
- Insightful communication and stakeholder influence: Demonstrated ability to translate complex financial analysis into clear, actionable insights and to effectively challenge and influence senior stakeholders
