In a nutshell
Our Commercial Lead will deliver strong commercial results, lead on mid-size client and supplier negotiations, and work cross functionally to execute customer focused plans. They should be confident owning multiple propositions, using data to guide decisions, and tackling problems proactively. We’re looking for a commercially sharp, collaborative communicator who can work independently while to drive the collective goals of Gift Cards.
What I am accountable for
The Sainsbury’s gift card team is responsible for delivering market leading gift card and multi-retail voucher programmes for all the Sainsbury’s group brands. We are operating in a dynamic, fast paced market and our multi-brand gift card offer give us the potential to offer something truly distinctive to our customers.
Working within the Commercial team this role gives you the opportunity to work across a variety of sectors while owning propositions/accounts to drive the strategic vision of the programme, including gift cards and MRV. You need to have great people skills to build relationships, a strategic mind to execute your sales plan with support of the Senior Commercial Manager, thinking with superb commercial acumen to ensure that everything we are doing is making money. Our Commercial Lead owns their propositions and accounts, always looking for opportunities to improve and continually balancing the impact on our customers and our P&L. You will be an expert in your field, acting as an SME and advocate internally, representing the business in the gift card market, working with the Senior Commercial Managers and team to spot new commercial opportunities to grow our business or make it more efficient to run.
Commercial Focus and Delivery
− Autonomously own propositions and accounts, including executing the sales and marketing plans and engaging relevant stakeholders
− Understanding and reporting on the weekly trading numbers for owned areas clearly articulate week-on-week and year-on-year movements, as well as providing rationale for our performance and a monthly latest view.
− Support the development of a winning sales strategy for all our brands for our Gift Card channels
− Understanding and reporting on the weekly trading numbers for gift card programmes, clearly articulate week-on-week and year-on-year movements, as well as providing rationale for our performance.
− Drive the success of propositions (e.g. promotions tool) through engaging teams and a focus on continuous improvement
− Support on marketing activity to drive customers to our propositions

· Effectively identifying and managing risks, issues, and dependencies
· Work collaboratively with the teams internally and externally to deliver a stretching strategy for sales/proposition growth
· Draw upon the broader team and cross functional support functions to help execute your selling strategy
· Influence and inspire across the gift card team and the broader business to build the gift card brand
Expertise
· Be an expert on the gift card market, our competitors, and the products we offer
· Spot opportunities in the market and work with the strategy team to make reality
· Be an advocate of our programme in internal and external forums
What I need to know
Essential Criteria
- Proven commercial delivery experience, with a track record of achieving results against sales, margin or P&L targets in a fast‑paced commercial environment.
- Strong data and financial acumen, able to interpret trading performance, build insights, and translate data into clear, actionable plans and forecasts.
- End‑to‑end ownership of propositions or accounts, including day‑to‑day execution of commercial strategy and identification of growth opportunities.
- Cross‑functional and stakeholder management capability, working effectively with internal teams and external suppliers to deliver shared commercial outcomes.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities independently, balancing competing deadlines while maintaining high standards of communication and delivery.
