Why join us

Joining Sainsbury's as the Risk & Audit Data Analytics and Tooling Manager offers an exciting opportunity to be at the forefront of transforming how data and technology are leveraged to drive efficiency and innovation within Internal Audit, Risk & Resilience. As a key player in shaping the function's data strategies and tooling capabilities, you will have the chance to lead impactful projects, collaborate with diverse stakeholders, and drive continuous improvement in a dynamic and forward-thinking environment. With a focus on ownership, innovation, and collaboration, this role provides a platform for professionals who are passionate about making a meaningful difference through data-driven insights and cutting-edge technology solutions.

What you'll do

You will play a pivotal role in driving data-led delivery across the Audit, Risk & Resilience function by acting as an integrated data partner on projects, analysing data flows and controls, assessing data quality, and ensuring data structures support effective reporting and risk alignment. You will lead the development of the function's reporting environment, including building data models, dashboards, metrics, and AI-enabled pipelines to strengthen audit planning, issue tracking, risk measurement, and insight generation. Additionally, you will manage and optimise the function's tooling estate, oversee automation solutions, and work on process improvement initiatives in collaboration with Audit, Risk & Resilience teams to enhance workflow automation and AI-supported efficiencies. Strengthening relationships across key stakeholders and supporting the responsible adoption of AI and emerging technologies will also be a key aspect of your role.

Who you are

You are a skilled professional with a proven track record in data management, reporting, analytics, and tooling ownership within risk, internal audit, compliance, or controls assurance environments. Your expertise lies in driving efficiency and innovation by leveraging data insights, automation, and emerging technologies to enhance audit planning, issue tracking, risk measurement, and insight generation. A self‑starter with strong time and project management skills, you can balance multiple initiatives and deliver high‑quality outputs at pace. You are comfortable building or overseeing automation and integration solutions, and with strong communication skills and a collaborative approach, you excel in building relationships, managing stakeholders, and translating complex technical concepts into clear, actionable strategies that contribute to the continuous improvement and effectiveness of the Internal Audit, Risk & Resilience function.

Essential Criteria

  • Demonstrable experience working in a risk, internal audit, compliance, or controls assurance environment, with direct involvement in data‑focused audit or assurance activities (e.g. data quality, access controls, transformations, or reconciliations)
  • Proven capability in data analysis, modelling, and reporting, including hands‑on use of analytics tools such as Power BI, Tableau, or equivalent to produce audit, risk, or management reporting
  • Demonstrated ability to plan and execute end‑to‑end data‑driven audit or assurance testing, including defining test objectives, performing data queries or analysis, documenting evidence, and articulating conclusions
  • Experience designing, building, or overseeing data automation or integration solutions, using technologies such as SQL, Python, ETL pipelines, low‑code platforms, or audit/workflow management tools
  • Proven ability to communicate complex data, tooling, or technology concepts clearly to non‑technical stakeholders, including influencing decisions and working effectively with internal and external partners
  • Experience using AI‑enabled or emerging technologies to enhance reporting, automate processes, and improve data quality, with the ability to assess, adopt, and embed secure and usable data and tooling solutions
