You’ll discover it’s incredibly fast-paced. People here are in it together and not afraid to take risks. They’re enthusiastic too, and their amazing leadership team is right behind them. The knowledge and experience you gain here could set you up for career moves anywhere else in the business. About the team

The Commercial Proposition team plays a central role in shaping how Sainsbury’s shows up for customers, ensuring our food proposition delivers relevant, compelling value every day. Sitting within Commercial Operations, the team brings together insight, strategy and delivery to define what value means for customers and how it translates into sustainable commercial performance. Working closely with Trading, Pricing, Marketing, Finance and Retail, the team acts as a strategic centre of excellence, providing clarity and direction in a fast-moving and highly competitive market.

More about the role

As Head of Value, you are the guardian of Sainsbury’s customer value strategy and the single source of truth for what good value looks like. You will lead the design and evolution of value frameworks, propositions and guardrails that balance customer needs with commercial outcomes, ensuring Sainsbury’s remains First Choice for Food. This includes shaping differentiated pricing and promotional strategies across channels, aligned with our broader commercial ambitions.

On a day-to-day basis, you will lead and prioritise a portfolio of strategic initiatives, supported by a small specialist team. You will work with senior stakeholders to translate market insight and performance data into clear recommendations, oversee always-on value reporting, and respond at pace to changes in the external market. You will also play a key role in developing and communicating elements of the Sainsbury’s Commercial Strategy, helping to align leaders behind a shared vision.

More about you

You bring a customer-first mindset combined with a deep understanding of commercial levers in complex retail environments. You are comfortable working with ambiguity, able to frame the right questions and apply analytical rigor to develop clear, pragmatic answers. You enjoy collaborating across functions and are confident influencing and constructively challenging senior stakeholders using evidence-led insight.

As a leader, you create clarity, set direction and coach others to deliver high-quality thinking and outputs. You are motivated by developing people and building high-performing teams, and you value simple, compelling storytelling when translating complex data into meaningful action.

Essential criteria

• Proven experience designing and leading customer or commercial value strategies within a complex organisation

• Demonstrable ability to analyse large and varied data sources and translate them into clear, actionable insights

• Proven leadership experience, including setting strategy and prioritising work

• Evidence of effective cross-functional working with Trading, Pricing, Marketing or Finance to deliver strategic change

• Demonstrable experience influencing and challenging senior stakeholders using data-led decisions
