Job Description

We’d all like amazing work to do, and real work-life balance. That’s waiting for you at Sainsbury’s. As the link between sellers and buyers, retail and head office, our retail operations team is the cog that keeps things running. With teams focused on store facing, labour, transformation, online, delivery and contact centre work, we touch almost every part of the business. It’s an incredibly fast-paced environment where you need to pivot not just daily, but often hourly. So while we plan all we can, it’s vital that we all think outside our job descriptions and look to optimise and improve how we do everything. There’s also a real team ethos. After all, it’s people like you who are going to truly transform this part of the business.

*Please note this role is for a 12month Fixed Term Contract and will involve some flexible working. Whilst you will be able to work from home, mobility will be required as you will be supporting Retail Teams through an important period of change. There will be an expectation to travel to stores as well as our offices for regular team meetings.

As a Deployment Executive for the Retail Labour and Operating Model Team, you will play a crucial role in delivering our workforce management (WFM) strategy, specifically focused on the deployment of our new WFM solution, UKG Pro. Your responsibilities will include supporting the Deployment Managers with change management activities, using data and feedback tools to assess business readiness, as well as collaboration across a wide group of stakeholders to ensure successful implementation of the new system and land cultural change.  The sheer scale and complexity of this programme means there’s always something impactful to work on, which gives you a real sense of purpose and responsibility.

We’ve made serious investment in our new systems, and you’ll need to draw on your previous experience as well as your strong communication and networking skills to enable you to play a pivotal role in implementing our strategic WFM plan successfully.

What outcomes you need to deliver

  • Facilitate sustainable change, working cross functionally to ensure successful adoption of our new WFM solution
  • Support with stakeholder engagement, using the existing programme communication framework and working with the Deployment Managers to effectively land these messages with a wide-ranging audience
  • Ensure integrity and accuracy while implementing this change, showing a particular passion for simplification and effectiveness in our WFM system and ways of working
  • Suggest business readiness methods and metrics to maximise return on investment and the best manager/colleague experience, providing innovative recommendations and actionable insight in response to your findings
  • Identify and address stores who need support above and beyond the standard migration and upskilling plans, agreeing remediation plans with the Deployment Managers, escalating risks as needed
  • Identify knowledge gaps and suggesting what educational activities are required, working most closely with the Deployment Managers, Regional Stores Directors (RSD), Area Managers (AM) and Store management teams to drive adoption and compliance to our business processes and the new WFM solution
  • Operate in a value driven manner, ensuring support for those around you and your team, playing you part in leading team and business culture

What you need to know and show

  • Confidence to engage, communicate with and influence all levels of Retail Leadership Teams, from RSD’s down, creating a compelling picture of how change will land successfully
  • Good understanding of store labour operations, preferably from time spent in a management role
  • Knowledge of workforce management and labour systems, tools and processes is essential (we use UKG Pro and Adapt)
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office is essential, previous analyst experience is desirable
  • Experience of landing large scale change within a retail environment is desirable
  • Experience of working cross functionally, building great working relationships at all levels with a willingness to challenge the status quo, looking to make continuous improvements
  • How to create and analyse accurate data, with the ability to articulate and present business readiness analysis in a clear and succinct manner, with the confidence to call out when a store is not ready for the required change
  • A passion for delivering innovative transformation and automation through technology, always doing the right things for our colleagues, customers and business

We are committed to being a truly inclusive retailer so you’ll be welcomed whoever you are and wherever you work. Around here, there’s always the chance to try something new — whether that’s as part of an evolving team or somewhere else across the business - and we take development seriously and promise to support you. We also recognise and celebrate colleagues when they go the extra mile and, where possible, offer flexible working. When you join our team, we’ll also offer you an amazing range of benefits. Here are some of them:

Starting off with colleague discount, you'll be able to save 10% on your shopping online and instore at Sainsbury's, Argos, TU and Habitat, and we regularly increase the discount to 15% at points during the year. We've also got you covered for your future with our pensions scheme and life cover. You'll also be able to share in our success as you may be eligible for a performance-related bonus of up to 10% of salary, depending on how we perform.

Your wellbeing is important to us too. You'll receive an annual holiday allowance and you can buy up to an additional week's holiday. We also offer other benefits that will help your money go further such as season ticket loans, cycle to work scheme, health cash plans, salary advance (where you can access some of your pay before pay day) as well access to a great range of discounts from hundreds of other retailers. And if you ever need it there is also an employee assistance programme.

Moments that matter are as important to us as they are to you which is why we give up to 26 weeks’ pay for maternity or adoption leave and up to 4 weeks’ pay for paternity leave.
