C5 Senior Engineer (Cloud) – Customer & Data

As a Senior Engineer (Cloud), you’ll be part of one of our Engineering teams, applying architectural and engineering principles to define and deliver technology that will better customer experiences, improve efficiency and reduce business costs, helping us to lower prices. You’ll support your team by enabling performance, compliance and risk management by sharing your expertise, judgement and passion for delivering quality products for customers.

 

In the role, you’ll own the designing, building and running of a next generation self-service Kubernetes platform to meet the needs of hundreds of developers across numerous application teams, creating automation to enable them to deliver a great shopping experience to 20M customers a week. You will be interacting with technologies such as Kubernetes, Istio, Terraform, Flux, Crossplane, Helm, EKS, ELK and more of the cloud native stack. Services you will support includes websites, apps, microservices and event driven architecture. You are expected to possess reasonable expertise in at least one programming language. Internally we prefer Javascript, Typescript and Golang and you should be willing to learn these. 

 

We use a variety of tech here and you need to be willing to pick up new tools and techniques. We’d also like you to be yourself – analytical, curious and unafraid to challenge the status quo.You’ll be a role model for best practices, championing a customer centric mindset and a passion for finding creative ways to solve problems, mentoring fellow engineers as a progressive member of the engineering community.

 

More about the role

  • You’ll be part of a team that owns the architecture, development and operation of a large-scale PaaS platform for hosting of cloud based microservices in AWS using Kubernetes, Javascript, Typescript and Golang
  • You’ll work with the team to implement the product technical roadmap for Sainsbury’s strategic PaaS
  • You’ll work with technologies at Enterprise scale
  • You’ll guide, support and enable performance within the team through providing technical knowledge and ideas 

 

More about you

  • Possess knowledge of at least one programming language. Javascript, Typescript and Golang are preferred
  • Great expertise in engineering practice, including deep knowledge of engineering and architectural principles 
  • Proven experience of infrastructure as code, software design and implementation, security, cloud and CI/CD
  • Self-drive and constantly striving to improve your team, division and peers 
  • Drive for advocacy of agile/lean delivery methodologies 
  • A passion for delivering solutions to customers, owning the whole SDLC and living the DevSecOps principles 
  • A passion for enhancing your knowledge and evidence curiosity in emerging tech 
  • Display empathy and understanding in supporting colleagues in the team to deliver
