My own experience is testament to the fact that development is absolutely something available here if you want it."

A little bit about..

Matt joined in 2004 and moved from warehouse into supply chain. He loves the supportive environment at Sainsbury’s and says if you go after them, there’s huge chances to progress.

My Story

“I started out as a warehouse picker, with no real ambition to have a career either at Sainsbury’s or within Logistics – that was 14 years ago now! As soon as I found an appetite for what I wanted to do, which turned out to be team management, I was supported and encouraged. Through the ‘You Can Be’ scheme I became a Warehouse Team Manager which opened up a world of opportunity for me and meant I got a good understanding of the whole logistics operation.

“I moved into a Store Openings Operative role four years ago which gave me an insight into how retail works and huge exposure to various stakeholders and business areas. After two years and with my now solid experience I felt confident I was ready for something bigger, so with the help of both my logistics planning and retail experience, I moved into a Supply Analyst role and then more recently into a lead position providing the reporting and insights to the rest of the supply chain team.

“My own experience is testament to the fact that development is absolutely something available here if you want it. I spent a large chunk of my career not really knowing what I wanted to do, but as soon as I found my drive, I was given the platform to push on and explore new roles. Identifying and developing talent is one the of the great things about working here.

“I buy into what we do at Sainsbury’s, I like that we are ethical, and we’re always looking to invest in innovation. I think we’re also good at setting standards and behaviours in the industry and that gives me a sense of pride to work here.”
