Store Colleagues

From the checkouts, to the bakery and the shop floor – our supermarket jobs are the best in town. With greater rewards for your work, you’ll feel motivated to do your best, every single day.

Our customers value our colleagues as much as we do. After all, these are the people who are doing a great job of creating the fantastic shopping experiences that bring them back, again and again.

Always in the right place at the right time

Working here is about being on a winning team, and everyone has an important part to play. Our colleagues are key to the successful running of our entire stores.

Our winning teams are made up of part time and full time Services Assistants, Food Services Assistants, Trading Assistants, Merchandising Controllers, GM & Clothing Assistants and Online Assistants. Whether they’re helping customers at the checkout or in our petrol stations, serving great tasting food, stocking our stores, or creating displays, they’re all working together to create the best shopping experience.

Across every role, they’re united in doing the right thing for our customers. Providing a happy, positive and helpful service, they’re taking pride in going above and beyond what’s expected. And so could you.

We don’t expect colleagues to be experts in everything. But everyone has the ability to work across more than one area, within their team. You could impress on the checkouts, replenish stock, work in our bakery, fulfill online orders or dazzle on the shop floor showing customers where products are located. Wherever you are in our stores, you’ll be on hand to make sure our customers keep coming back to us.

What you’ll bring

Retail experience is great, but it’s attitude that matters most. You’re a good communicator and team player, and you’re also friendly, polite and helpful. Plus, you bring excellent customer service skills.

More rewarding from the start

We expect the best, and so should you. At Sainsbury’s everyone is paid fairly with one of the best rates in the industry. We have one contract that’s consistent for all retail colleagues, at £12 per hour. For roles based in London, there’s a higher rate of £13.15.

Certain roles, such as Drivers, attract an additional skills payment to make them more competitive. Sainsbury’s Online Delivery Drivers receive £13.50 Nationally and £14.65 in London (£12 Nationally & £13.15 in London with a £1.50 market payment).

For Argos Delivery Drivers, it’s £13 Nationally and £14.15 London (£12 Nationally & £13.15 London with a £1 market payment).

There’s also flexibility as and when you need it. So anyone can apply for overtime and swap their shifts online.
